Discovering What Kind Of Learner You Are

Everyone has their own learning style. Discovering what your learning style is can help you better understand how you can help yourself keep the knowledge that you gain when you are experiencing a learning opportunity.

There are three main ways that people learn. Some people will have a combination of theses styles, but generally there is one that is more dominant than the others. The three learning styles are audio, visual and kinesthetic.

Audio learners have the best learning experience when they can hear the information. If you find that you would rather hear new information than see it or write it down, then this is probably your dominate style. This is the most commonly used teaching style. When teachers give oral instructions or lecture, they are appealing to the audio learners.

Visual learners prefer to read their instructions or see them expressed in a visual way. Pictures and other visual graphs and charts really appeal to them. They often will have to write what the teacher is saying so that they can read it later to fully retain the new information.

Kinesthetic learners love to use their hands. Being able to physically manipulate what they are learning about helps them learn the most. For young children, this can mean using alphabet magnets to spell out words when they are first learning them. It can mean writing down what is said, so that they can have associate the movement of the pencil with what they are learning.

Knowing your learning style will help you be able to help yourself when you are learning something new.
